![]() Hawthorne, NJ, Aug. 6, 2019 — A new exhibition by Dorothy Mae Morton opens at Lous Bay II Public Library & Community Center Sept. 1 and will run through Oct. 31, with a special Meet the Artist Reception, Sep. 12, 7 pm - 8:30 pm. The Louis Bay II Library and Community Center is located at 345 Lafayette Ave, Hawthorne, NJ. In the Exhibit, Life in Faces, A Collection of Portraits in Pencil, Dorothy recreates striking images of both celebrity and everyday people. “I started this series almost by accident. I drew a picture of a face that made me feel something when I looked at it,” Dorothy said. “I loved the way it turned out, so I kept looking for faces to draw. I enjoy thinking of the many possible stories that create from their expressions.” Dorothy, who was born and raised in Hawthorne, loves all works of creativity. She remembers the joy of getting new crayons and a coloring book as a small girl and the thrill of creating something new. It includes images of Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Bob Marley, Marilyn Monroe, and other unforgettable celebrities. Lesser-known faces tell the stories of the stages of life from birth on. Meet Dorothy Mae Morton and learn more about her work during her reception on Sep. 12.
